Sister Projects from Prairie Moon Quilts

My sister and I occasionally take on “Sister Projects” together. It’s seriously fun to have a sister close who quilts! She didn’t start quilting in earnest until 2001, but it’s as if she’s been quilting with me all along. I used to quilt with our grandmother, and Katy took up quilting a few months after we lost Grandma, so now I can quilt with her. It keeps us connected quite nicely!

The “Sister Project” is usually an annual thing, coinciding with our annual pilgrimage to Paducah to the AQS Show, but for the last 3 years ...

Country Backroads Mystery BOM from Prairie Moon Quilts

It’s time once again to announce the new annual BOM program that I’ve designed for Sew Sweet Quilt Shop.

Only this year, I have no quilts to show you!

This year’s quilt is a MYSTERY! That’s right — we’re changing things up, and this year’s quilt is a mystery quilt in 12 installments.

The quilt is called Country Backroads, and what I CAN show you is the colors we’re using. Red, white, and blue — a patriotic theme:

I can also tell you that the quilt finishes at 76″ x 76″, and if you need ...

Stitching Pink in October from Prairie Moon Quilts

It’s once again Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Last year, I participated in Moda’s Stitch Pink Quilt-Along, and made this quilt (which I still don’t have quilted yet):

Moda is hosting Stitch Pink again this year, altho this year it begins on October 15th and runs for two weeks. This year’s quilt is very cute, but I have chosen instead to repeat some of last year’s blocks this time. I’ll be repeating my favorites from last year’s Stitch Pink event using these fabrics:

They’re from an old line from Windham Fabrics, called “Project ...

Maple Leaf Quilt-Along, Step 3 from Prairie Moon Quilts

Have you started a pile of little Maple Leaf blocks by now? I’ve seen a few around, and some of you have sent me some lovely pictures! Here’s one Amanda made — the color in this is fabulous!!!

I’m a little slow at it. It’s super difficult for me to cut anything. I ordered one of those ergonomic rotary cutters from Martelli, and it helps a lot, but even then, I can only use it for a tiny amount of time. I’m calling it part of my therapy, because getting back to doing the things I ...

Maple Leaf Quilt-Along, Step 2 from Prairie Moon Quilts

Here we go!

Have you picked out and gathered up your fabrics for your Maple Leaves? It’s time to get cutting and stitching!

Let’s get right to it . . .

CUTTING:
The instructions are for cutting ONE block only. This way it’s a lot easier for you to make the blocks scrappy.

For ONE block:

From background, cut:
(3) 2″ squares — Draw a diagonal line on the back of two of these squares; cut the third square in half diagonally to make 2 triangles.
(1) 1 1/2″ square

From a print (or multiple prints), cut:
(2) 2″ squares ...

It’s a Maple Leaf Quilt-Along! from Prairie Moon Quilts

In conjunction with the Brunswick Forest BOM, I’m hosting a quick little Quilt-along for those darling Maple Leaf blocks! They were so fun to make, I didn’t get enough the first time around while making the fall version of the quilt, and I want to do more. I want you to join me!

They’re great for busting small scraps, and they’re just so dang cute! Plus, it’s fall, so why not spend the fall making some leaves in our sewing rooms, while the leaves fall outdoors?

If you’re doing the Fall version of the ...

Stitch Pink with Moda from Prairie Moon Quilts

As you probably know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Last year, on October 18th, I lost one of my closest, dearest friends to breast cancer. I miss her every day.

This year, Moda is hosting a Stitch Pink Quilt-Along, presenting one block each day throughout October, to make this quilt:

In honor of my friend, Cindy, and so many other friends of mine who have beat breast cancer (thank God), I’m joining in on this Quilt-Along, because I know if Cindy were still with us, she’d be doing it, too.

I’ll be doing it along with ...
